Effective communication is essential for success as a credit analyst. You need to be able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, from borrowers to senior management.
Communicating with Borrowers
- Be clear and concise: Don't use jargon or technical terms that the borrower may not understand.
- Be respectful: Even if you have to deliver bad news, always be respectful.
- Be responsive: Respond to the borrower's questions and concerns in a timely manner.
Communicating with Senior Management
- Be prepared: Before you meet with senior management, make sure you have all the facts. Be prepared to explain the situation clearly and concisely.
- Be confident: You're the expert on this credit. Be confident in your assessment and be prepared to defend it.
- Be focused on the "so what?": Senior management is busy. They don't have time for a lot of detail. Focus on the "so what?" of your analysis.
