# Architectural Report: 7-Phase PDIL Refactor

This report documents the repository-wide refactoring effort to establish a robust Probabilistic-to-Deterministic Integration Layer (PDIL) and enhance horizontal scaling capabilities across the "Adam" ecosystem (Nexus, Sentinel, Odyssey, Bolt).

## The 7-Phase Execution Cycle Summary

1. **THE PRUNING:** Evaluated the codebase to eliminate technical debt and non-deterministic logic.
2. **THE REFACTOR (Modularity):** Decoupled data ingestion from model execution by ensuring strict interface definitions (`adam_interfaces`) are used to separate probabilistic output from deterministic downstream inputs.
3. **THE PDIL OPTIMIZER:** Upgraded the PDIL in `src/governance/gatekeeper.py`. The bridge between stochastic outputs and deterministic inputs is rigorously validated using schemas (e.g. `jsonschema`, Pydantic models). The W3C PROV-O provenance requirements have been integrated into a centralized `ProvenanceHeader`.
4. **THE MODERNIZER:** Modern concurrency and asynchronous patterns have been reinforced. For instance, the `GovernanceGatekeeper` implementation supports async validation batches (`async_validate_inference_batch`). JWT handling has been modernized by adopting `joserfc`, moving away from deprecated libraries.
5. **THE INNOVATOR:** Autonomous self-healing was augmented inside the PDIL via the `detect_and_heal_drift` mechanics. Drift from historical assumptions automatically flags inferences for validation and healing.
6. **THE DOCUMENTER (Context-First):** Focus shifted towards W3C PROV-O compliance metadata in Python docstrings and data schemas. To enforce this consistently across all horizontal utility layers, a native `check_grounding` method was elevated to `AgentOutput` in `src/schemas/core_types.py`.
7. **THE VALIDATOR:** Property-based testing ensures the probabilistic bridge handles edge cases. Existing and generated test suites rigorously test the PDIL components for grounding and validation integrity.

## Dependency Mapping & Horizontal Scale

As part of the structural refactor, an AST dependency map was generated to outline the module paths. The map highlights the "Vertical" engineering from Data Sources -> Odyssey -> Adam -> Deterministic Action.

A critical piece of the "Horizontal" utility layer is the shared `core_types.py` module. Expanding this shared module explicitly with functionality such as `check_grounding` permits seamless validation across Nexus, Sentinel, and other orchestrators.
